Beware of the man of one book

siouxbang:

Actually you know what this is something I’ve noticed.

If I tell people I can’t have children I get all this sympathy and awkwardness and “oh i’m so sorry” with this instant assumption that I am wringing my hands about it every night.

If I tell people I don’t want children, which is just as true and normally easier than telling people my life story, it somehow becomes totally valid to treat the conversation as a public intervention in which I need to be brought round to the idea of incubating life.

Look I’m really sorry and all but i don’t see pushing a person out of my uterus and paying for them for 25 years as a fulfilling life activity. A lot of people do and that’s cool but it’s not for me, so thanks for trying but don’t you dare ever try to fucking shame me into using my health as an excuse when my total disinterest in children came first.

I don’t even have any health problems that would prevent me from having kids (that I know of) yet I agree with you here....
